Hevy is a workout app made for people who want an easy way to keep track of their training. You can log your lifts, plan your routines, and see how much progress you are making over time. Many people like it because it is simple to use, comes with a big library of exercises, and even lets you connect with friends who are also working out.

If you have been thinking about trying it out, you might be wondering if it actually works well, if it is worth spending money on the subscription, and if it can really help you reach your fitness goals. Those are the exact questions we had in mind before testing the app ourselves.

Hevy App Review 2025: Everything You Need to Know

What is Hevy App

Hevy is a fitness tracking app launched to make logging workouts simple and clear for all kinds of training styles. It focuses on strength training but also works for bodybuilding, calisthenics, powerlifting, and general fitness. The app lets you record exercises, plan routines, and track progress with detailed stats and graphs. It also includes more than 200 exercise animations so users can follow the right form and add custom exercises when needed.

The platform has both a free version with no ads and a paid plan for extra features. Hevy also supports Wear OS watches, allowing users to sync workouts, monitor heart rate, and follow routines directly from their wrist. It also has features like automatic rest timers, one rep max calculation, and progress graphs.

Hevy App Features

  • Log workouts and create custom routines
  • Explore ready-made routines with filters for level, goal, and equipment
  • 200+ exercises with animation guides and summaries
  • Social features to search, follow, and view friends’ workouts
  • Detailed progress tracking with graphs and one rep max calculation
  • Wear OS support with live sync and heart rate tracking.

Hevy App Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Free to use with no ads
  • Clean and user-friendly design for quick logging
  • Wide variety of workouts for both gym and home training
  • Community aspect with following, leaderboards, and shared routines
  • Affordable Pro plans, including a one-time lifetime option.

Cons

  • Free plan limits users to only 4 routines and 7 custom exercises
  • Sync issues with Samsung Health, other connected apps, and the Wear OS app
  • Too much focus on social features instead of workout tracking
  • Limited pre-installed programs and a lack of goal-based routines
  • The statistics tab could use more detailed muscle group breakdowns
  • Occasional freezing and trouble uploading workout videos
  • Can only include up to 2 exercises in a superset.

Hevy App Price

You can keep using the free version of the Hevy app without limits, but some features are locked behind a Pro subscription. The Pro version, called “Hevy Pro,” gives you access to unlimited routines, unlimited custom exercises, full graph history, and the ability to log all body measurements.

The subscription costs $2.99 per month or $23.99 per year, and there is also a one-time lifetime option for $74.99, which is a great choice if you plan to use the app long term.

Sadly, there is no free trial period, so you’ll need to decide upfront whether the free version is enough or if the Pro plan’s extra features are worth the upgrade.

Hevy App Free vs Pro

Hevy is free to download and use, and the free version already covers the basics really well. You can log your workouts, create up to four routines, and track your lifts without hitting a paywall. For someone just starting out at the gym, the free plan is more than enough. It gives you the essential workout logging, exercise database, rest timers, and progress tracking without feeling limited too quickly.

That said, once you start training more seriously, the Pro version becomes worth it. With Pro, you get unlimited workout routines, unlimited custom exercises, full graph history, and the ability to log all body measurements. These extra tools make a big difference when you’re following structured programs, tracking long-term progress, or experimenting with custom lifts.

The subscription costs $2.99 per month or $23.99 per year, and there’s also a lifetime option for $74.99, which makes sense if you plan to use the app long term. Sadly, there’s no free trial, so you can’t test Pro features before committing. However, the core app runs smoothly and already feels polished on the free plan, so upgrading is really about how deep you want your tracking to go.

Design and User Interface

Overall, Hevy is straightforward to use and easy to find your way around. At the top of the home screen, there is a search bar where you can look up friends, athletes, or suggested users to follow, much like on Instagram or Threads. Next to it, you will also see a notifications button so you never miss updates from people you follow. The home feed itself shows activity from others, making it feel more social compared to many other workout apps. Hevy app homescreen with quick access to workouts, routines, and stats

The design uses a clean and modern layout with a focus on functionality during workouts. From the home screen, tapping on the workout tab takes you straight into training mode. You can start an empty workout, build your own routine, or browse the “Explore Routines” section. Hevy app workout section showing live exercise tracking and progress

The Explore tab is where you will find a large library of ready-made routines for beginners, intermediate, or advanced users. These can be filtered by goal, equipment, or training style, such as push-pull-legs, full body, dumbbells only, cardio and HIIT, travel-friendly, or even bodyweight workouts. When you open a routine, you see a clear breakdown with an animation guide, a workout summary, your past history, and even a leaderboard for comparison.Explore workout programs and training plans on Hevy app

The app design is made with training and logging in mind. The buttons are large and the layout is intuitive, so you can log sets and reps with very little effort while you are mid-workout. Everything feels lightweight and focused on the session itself, so you do not waste time tapping through extra menus. All workouts listed in selected training program on Hevy app

Once you save a workout, all of your progress is stored and displayed with graphs, making it easy to track improvements over time. It is obvious that Hevy has been built by people who understand the needs of both casual gym goers and serious athletes. Workout summary and exercise animation screen on Hevy app

Performance

Hevy is generally well-liked among gym goers and fitness enthusiasts, but it is not without flaws. The app runs well on most devices, and navigation is simple once you get used to the layout. The user interface is clean and functional, though some users feel it could be improved, especially with photo uploads and certain buttons overlapping on screens with navigation bars.

One of the best parts of Hevy is its detailed workout logging and progress tracking. The graphs, one rep max calculations, and history summaries give a clear view of how your training is going. The Explore section is also helpful, with dozens of routines for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. You can filter by goal, equipment, or style, which makes it easier to find a workout that fits your needs.

That said, performance issues do show up in some areas. Syncing with Samsung Health and other connected platforms can be unreliable, and the Wear OS app is still buggy, with reports of half completed workouts disappearing or auto scrolling during sets. Free users are also limited to four routines, which feels restrictive. Still, the app’s strong tracking tools, social features like following and leaderboards, and variety of workouts make it a solid option for most people looking to stay consistent with their training.

Final Verdict of Our Hevy App Review

Hevy has proven itself to be one of the most reliable workout tracking apps out there. If you look at the app store reviews, users have praised Hevy a lot. On Google Play, it has crossed over 1 million downloads with a solid 4.8 rating, while on the iOS App Store, it holds an impressive 4.9 rating. These numbers are highly impressive, especially considering the millions of downloads and the active user base it has built.

In our testing, it stood out for its clean design, wide exercise library, and detailed tracking tools that make it easy to see progress over time. The social side of the app, with the ability to follow friends, share routines, and compare results on leaderboards, adds a nice motivational push that many similar apps lack.

The free version is strong enough for casual use, but it does come with limits, like only four routines and a handful of custom exercises. If you are serious about training and want more flexibility, Hevy Pro is worth looking into. The premium features like unlimited routines, unlimited custom exercises, full graph history, and body measurement tracking make it a better fit for regular gym goers. At $2.99 monthly, $23.99 yearly, or a one-time lifetime payment of $74.99, the lifetime plan feels like the best deal if you plan to use the app long term.

There are some areas that need improvement, like Wear OS and Apple Watch syncing, more variety in built-in programs, and small bugs with notes or uploads. Still, the developers are active, and the app keeps getting better with updates. If you are looking for a workout tracker that balances simplicity with powerful features, Hevy is easy to recommend. For anyone committed to fitness goals, the Pro or lifetime plan adds real value and is well worth considering.
