8 Quick Ways to Fix Pokemon Bank Not Working Problem

Switch from Pretendo to Nintendo Network

If you are using Pretendo, Pokemon Bank will not open and you will see a message saying your device cannot connect. This happens because Pokemon Bank only works on the original Nintendo servers. The fix is easy. Just open the Nimbus app on your system and change your connection from Pretendo to Nintendo Network.

Before you try this, make sure you know which service you are actually using. If your system is still set to Pretendo servers, Pokemon Bank will never connect. If it is already on Nintendo servers, move on to the next solution.

Check the Region of your 3DS

A lot of players run into trouble with Pokemon Bank after they change the region of their console. Even if your settings now show a new region, the system can still behave like it belongs to the old one. When this happens, online features like the eShop and Pokemon Bank refuse to open.

If your console originally came from another region and you changed it later, that alone can block the connection. The app will keep trying to connect, but never move forward. To fix this, the console needs to be set up in a way that fully matches the region you want to use.

Check Your Friend List Status While Bank Is Open

If Pokemon Bank keeps saying it cannot connect to the server or keeps showing random error codes, this method has helped many players. Keep Pokemon Bank open, then press the home button. Now open your friend list. Wait a moment and see if your friend card turns orange and shows that you are online. This tells you the system is waking up the online connection.

Once you see the online status, go back to Pokemon Bank and try connecting again. For some players, this works faster than restarting the console or trying other long steps.

Check for Slow Internet Connection

A low speed internet connection can also be the reason for issues with the Pokemon Bank. You can check your speed on sites like Fast or SpeedTest. If the speed looks low, try restarting your router or modem. If things still feel slow after that, you may need help from your internet provider.

Reconnect your 3DS to WiFi

One easy way to deal with connection issues is to set up the WiFi link on your 3DS again. Reset your router so it can form a new signal. After that, delete the WiFi network from your 3DS and turn the console off for a short pause. When it turns back on, join your WiFi once more and run a connection test to confirm the network is working.

If it still fails, try connecting to your phone hotspot. If the app opens there, your home network may have a DNS issue.

Check your Login Details

If Pokemon Bank is not opening after you sign in, your login information may be typed wrong. Try entering your email and password again with slow, careful steps. If it still will not accept the sign-in, use the reset option on the login page to make a new password and try again.

Check If the Servers Are Under Maintenance

Server maintenance also makes the app unreachable for a while. In this situation, there is nothing you can adjust on your side, so wait until the team finishes their backend work to fix the server-side issue.

Check If Your Account is Banned or Disabled

If none of the other steps help, your Pokemon Bank account may be disabled or banned for a rule violation. This can be short-term or long-term, and you can confirm the reason by contacting their support team through email or social media. If your account is disabled, you can ask them to review your case and request that it be restored so you can use the service again.
