by Nithin Shetty
January 16, 2025

TikTok has taken the world by storm in recent years, becoming one of the most popular social media platforms globally, even as it faces bans in some countries. With its short, engaging videos and diverse content, TikTok continues to attract millions of users daily. However, as its popularity grows, so do the challenges users encounter. One common issue many face is the frustrating “Following others too frequently. Try again later” error, which restricts users from following new accounts due to perceived rapid activity.

This error can limit your ability to connect with others on the platform. But, here we’ll guide you through three effective ways to resolve this issue.

What does it mean when it says “following others too frequently” on TikTok?

When TikTok says “following others too frequently,” it means you have exceeded the platform’s limit on how many accounts you can follow within a specific time frame. Generally, if you follow more than 30 accounts in an hour, TikTok may display this error. This restriction is part of TikTok’s time-based limits to prevent spam-like behavior and ensure fair use of the platform.

How to Fix TikTok ‘following others too frequently’ Error

Avoid Following Too Quickly and Take Breaks

If you see this error, the best thing to do is take a break from the following accounts. Stop following others for at least 30 minutes, then check if the issue is resolved. If the error still appears, wait a bit longer before trying again.

As a guideline, you can follow one person every 2 minutes to avoid triggering the error. Another option is to close the TikTok app for a while and reopen it later to continue following accounts at a slower pace.

Limit to 30 Accounts Per Hour

To prevent being blocked from following, stick to TikTok’s limit of following no more than 30 accounts per hour. Since exceeding this limit can show an error message like this. To stay within the limit, keep track of how many accounts you follow.

Avoid Third-Party Tools or Bots

Using bots or third-party tools to follow accounts in bulk violates TikTok’s terms of service and can lead to serious issues. These tools often cause trouble and may even result in your account being flagged or banned. To avoid such problems, stop any automated activity and manually follow accounts instead.

Log Out and Log Back In

Sometimes, simply logging out of your TikTok account and logging back in can fix the issue by refreshing your session. After logging back in, try following accounts again at a slower pace to avoid getting the same error again and again.

Clear the TikTok App Cache

Another option you can try is clearing the app cache. While this may not usually be the cause of the issue, it’s worth trying if other solutions haven’t worked.

  1. Open your device’s Settings.
  2. Go to Apps or Applications.
  3. Tap on the TikTok in the list of installed apps.
  4. Select Storage.
  5. Tap Clear Cache to delete the temporary files stored by the app. Clear cache on Android
