9Now is a free streaming app from the Nine Network in Australia. A lot of people use it every day to watch their favourite TV shows, live news, sports, and more. It’s surely a great way to catch up on what’s happening or just relax with some good entertainment.
But lately, some people have been having problems with the app. Some say it won’t open, others are stuck with constant loading or errors. Sometimes it crashes right in the middle of watching something. And honestly, it’s pretty annoying when all you want to do is sit back and enjoy a show.
If you’ve been dealing with these issues, keep reading, and we’ll help you figure out what’s going wrong and some things you can try on your Android, iPhone, Samsung TV, and Apple TV.
How to Fix 9Now App Not Working Issue on Android and iPhone
Check if 9Now is down
To find out, try opening a different app or visiting a website in your browser. If everything else works fine except 9Now, then it could be that the 9Now service is down for everyone. You can check the realtime overview of issues and outages on websites like Down Detector.
If the app is down, there’s nothing much you can do at the moment. Just wait a bit and try again later. These things usually get fixed pretty quickly.
Close and Reopen the 9Now App
If 9Now still isn’t working, try the good old trick—just close the app and open it again. Swipe up to close the 9Now app from the recent apps menu to close it. After that, reopen it.
You can also force close 9Now app on Android by heading over to Settings, tap on Apps, select 9Now, then tap Force Stop.
On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, find 9Now, and swipe it away. Then try opening it once more.
Check for Updates
Sometimes older versions of apps stop working properly because changes are made behind the scenes. To avoid issues, make sure you’re using the latest version by checking for updates in the Play Store or App Store.
On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Manage apps and device, then go to Updates available. If 9Now is listed, tap Update. On iPhone, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, scroll down to see pending updates, and update 9Now if it’s there.
You can also search for the 9Now app directly in the Play Store or App Store and tap the Update button if it’s available.
Restart the Phone
You may be surprised to learn that a good old-fashioned reboot seems to solve most smartphone issues. It’s one of the very first methods you should try when something is not working as expected on your phone. Just restart your phone and see if the 9Now app works.
To restart an Android phone, press and hold the power button and tap on Restart.
To restart an iPhone, press and hold the side button along with either volume button until the power screen shows up. Slide to power off. Once the phone is off, press and hold the side button again to turn it back on.
Check your Internet Connection
Sometimes the app might not load because your internet is having problems. Try opening other apps or a website to see if they’re working. If nothing is loading, the issue might be with your WiFi or mobile data.
If you’re on WiFi, check if the router is working. You can try turning it off and on again. Also, if you’re using a VPN, try switching it off to see if 9Now starts working.
Clear Cache and App Data
Sometimes the app stores broken files or old settings that stop it from working right. Clearing the cache removes temporary files, and clearing all data resets the app completely.
To clear cache and data on Android:
- Open Settings
- Tap Apps
- Choose See all apps, then find and tap on 9Now
- Go to Storage and cache
- Tap Clear cache
- If that doesn’t help, tap Clear storage or Data to completely remove all data. (But you need to log in to the app again.)
On iPhone, there’s no direct option to clear the cache. You’ll need to uninstall and reinstall the app.
- Tap and hold the 9Now app icon
- Select Remove App, then tap Delete App
- Now go to the App Store, search for 9Now, and install it again
Allow All Required App Permissions
If 9Now doesn’t have access to certain features on your phone, it might not work properly. The app needs permission to access your location, Wi-Fi connection info, photos, media, and storage. If any of these are blocked, it could cause loading or playback issues.
To make sure you have all the neceessary permissions for 9Now app on Android:
- Open the Settings on your device
- Go to Apps
- Tap See all apps, then find and select 9Now
- Tap on Permissions
- Make sure Location, Photos and Videos, Storage, and Network access (like Wi-Fi info) are allowed
To check permissions on iPhone:
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and tap on 9Now (On iOS 18 or above, find the app under the Apps section in Settings)
- Now, make sure Location, Photos, and access to the local network or data are turned on.
Change your DNS Settings
Sometimes, the 9Now app may not work properly due to DNS issues on your internet connection. A good fix is to change your DNS to a public one like Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). These are often more stable and can help apps connect better to servers.
If you’re using Wi-Fi, you can change the DNS settings directly in your router by logging in through a browser using your router’s IP address (like 192.168.0.1). Look for DNS settings under the network or internet section and update the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the secondary to 1.1.1.1. Save the changes and restart the router. On some routers, you may also need to switch from IPv6 to IPv4.
Android users can also change DNS for their Wi-Fi network. Just go to Settings > Network & Internet > Internet > tap your Wi-Fi > Advanced > IP settings > change to Static. Then enter DNS 1 as 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 as 1.1.1.1.
Turn Off VPN
The 9Now app is meant to work only in Australia. If you’re outside the country and try to open it, you’ll probably see a message like “Sorry, 9Now is only available in Australia.” That’s why many people use VPNs to trick the app into thinking they’re in Australia.
However, even if you’re actually in Australia, having a VPN turned on can lead to errors like “Unexpected network error.” So if you’re in Australia and using a VPN, try turning it off and then launching the 9Now app again. That might be all it takes to fix the problem.
Log Out and Log Back In
Sometimes the 9Now app might not stream shows properly because your account isn’t logged in correctly. This can happen even if everything else looks fine.
For a quick fix, you need to open the 9Now app and log out of your account. Then, restart your phone, and after that, open the app again and log back in. Now, try playing a video to see if it’s working as it should.
How to Fix 9Now App Not Working Issue on Samsung TV and Apple TV
On Samsung TV
If the 9Now app is giving you a hard time on your Samsung TV, try these steps first:
Close and Reopen the App
Grab your remote and press the Exit button. This should take you back to the main Smart Hub screen. Now open the 9Now app again and see if it works.
If that doesn’t do anything, press the Back or Return button instead. It’ll take you to the same place—Smart Hub. From there, launch the app again and check.
Restart your TV (power cycle)
If the above method doesn’t help to fix the 9Now app not working on Samsung TV, press and hold the Power button on your remote until the TV switches off and turns back on. Once it’s back on, wait a minute and then open 9Now again.
Reinstall the 9Now App
If restarting didn’t help, reinstalling the app might do the trick. Go to the Apps section, then find My Apps. Now, highlight the 9Now app, and hold down the Enter button on your remote. A menu will pop up—choose the option to reinstall the app. After that, try using it again.
On Apple TV
If you’re using Apple TV and the 9Now app isn’t working properly, take a look at what you can try:
Check for Software Updates
Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and make sure your Apple TV is up to date. Sometimes the app needs the latest software to work properly.
Reset your Network Settings
Navigate to Settings > Network, select your Wi-Fi, and choose Forget Network. Then reconnect by entering your Wi-Fi password again.
Try a Different Network
If you think your Wi-Fi might be the issue, connect your Apple TV to a different network, like a mobile hotspot.
Use Another Apple ID (optional)
As a last step, you can try signing out of your Apple ID and logging in with a different one—just to see if the issue is linked to your account.
