How to Fix DNS.Adguard.com Not Working on Android

Try Alternative Adguard DNS

If your internet is acting weird while using Private DNS set to dns.adguard.com, there’s a simple fix you can try. Go to your phone’s network settings and turn off Private DNS for a bit. If your connection starts working fine after that, it’s likely that AdGuard’s DNS is the issue.

But if you still want to block ads without turning off Private DNS, you’ve got a couple of other options. Try changing it to dns-family.adguard.com or dns.adguard-dns.com. Both of these are from AdGuard, too, and work in a similar way. A lot of people have switched to these and said they’re working fine for now.

Once the main dns.adguard.com starts working again, you can switch back to it if you want. I’ll post an update when that happens.

Check Your Internet Connection

Sometimes, the problem isn’t with the DNS itself but with your internet. If your connection is slow, keeps dropping, or just isn’t stable, dns.adguard.com might not work the way it should. Also, in some cases, your mobile network or internet provider might block certain DNS services without telling you.

First, make sure your internet is actually working fine. Open a few websites or stream a video to check if everything loads properly. If stuff is still lagging, try turning on Flight Mode for a few seconds and then turning it off again. Or you can just restart your Wi-Fi router if you’re at home.

You can also try using a VPN and then test dns.adguard.com again. If it starts working, then your ISP is probably the one blocking it. A VPN helps you get around that kind of stuff.

Check Your DNS Settings

If dns.adguard.com isn’t working, it might be set up the wrong way. A small mistake in the DNS name can stop it from working, so it’s good to double-check.

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone
  2. Go to Network & Internet
  3. Tap on Private DNSPrivate DNS option in Android network settings menu
  4. Choose a Private DNS provider hostname field type dns.adguard.comEnter dns.adguard.com as private DNS on Android
  5. Tap Save and then restart your phone.

Restart Your Phone

Restart Phone

Sometimes your phone just needs a quick restart. If dns.adguard.com isn’t working, it might be because of old or cached DNS info. So, restarting your phone can help fix the issue.

Reset Your Network Settings

If your Private DNS or custom DNS isn’t working right, it could be because some network settings on your phone got messed up. The easiest way to fix this is to reset all your network settings.

To do this on Android, just open your Settings, scroll down to Back up and reset, then tap on Reset network settings. Now, confirm reset.Resetting network settings on Android

After that, you’ll need to connect to your Wi-Fi again and pair any Bluetooth devices, but this reset often sorts out those DNS issues.

Check if AdGuard DNS Servers Are Down

Checking the AdGuard DNS server status to see if servers are down

Sometimes the AdGuard DNS servers go offline for a little while, like during maintenance or if too many people are using them at once. This can cause the DNS to stop working on your phone.

You can check the AdGuard server status by clicking this link. If the servers are down, just wait a bit until they come back online. Usually, they don’t stay down for long.

Try the AdGuard App

If setting up the DNS on your phone isn’t working, you can use the official AdGuard app instead. It does the same job and also blocks ads and stops trackers while you browse.

Just download the AdGuard app from the Google Play Store, install it, and follow the steps to set it up. Inside the app, you can easily configure the DNS settings too. It’s an easy way to get everything working.

Try a Different DNS

If dns.adguard.com isn’t working for you, you can try some other DNS servers instead. These are some popular free ones you can test to see which works best on your phone:

Provider Primary DNS Secondary DNS
Google 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
Control D 76.76.2.0 76.76.10.0
Quad9 9.9.9.9 149.112.112.112
OpenDNS Home 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220
Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 1.0.0.1
AdGuard DNS 94.140.14.14 94.140.15.15
CleanBrowsing 185.228.168.9 185.228.169.9
Alternate DNS 76.76.19.19 76.223.122.150

Just pick one you like, enter the numbers in your DNS settings, and see if your connection feels better.

We hope this helped you get past the dns.adguard.com not working problem on your Android device.
