  1. Open the terminal (You can open it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T)
  2. Now type or paste the command: sudo apt-get update and hit enter
  3. Once the command runs successfully, it will show you errors like this :
    • Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/venerix/pkg/ubuntu/dists/raring/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
    • E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

  1. Click on the start menu (lower-left corner button)
  2. Now, go to System > Time and Date

  2. Type the command: sudo apt-get update
  3. Hit enter key and enter your password
  4. If you see the message, “Repository ‘http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable Release’ changed its ‘Origin’ value from ‘Google, Inc.’ to ‘Google LLC’,” perform the next few steps. Failed to download repository information fix
  5. Type the following command: sudo apt update
  6. Press the Enter or Return key
  7. If you get a message “Do you want to accept these changes and continue updating from this repository?“, then Press the y key and hit Enter or Return key
  8. After it updates your PPAs, type exit and then press the Enter or Return key to exit the Terminal
  9. The next time you run Software Updater, the error message should no longer appear.
