Many smartphone users face problems with their camera at some point. One common issue is when the camera suddenly stops working and shows an error message. If you recently bought a new phone and see the message “Camera not enabled. Camera error, please re-enable it later or restart the phone to recover,” it can be frustrating and confusing. This problem often happens on Infinix phones, but it may also appear on other brands.
It can be worrying, especially if your phone is new and you expect everything to work perfectly. You may feel stuck, especially when nothing you try seems to help.
In this post, we will guide you through different steps to try and fix the issue. Keep reading to find out what you can do next.
How to Fix Camera error, please re-enable it later or restart the phone to recover
Force Stop Camera App
One thing you can try is force stopping the camera app. This helps if the app is stuck or not responding properly in the background.
- Go to your device Settings
- Tap on Apps, or Application Manager
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner
- Select Show system apps
- Tap on Camera
- Tap the Force Stop button
- Now, try opening the camera again.
Restart the Phone
Sometimes, the easiest fix is just restarting your phone. Just press and hold your power button, then tap on Restart. If you don’t see that option, just turn the phone off and switch it back on after a few seconds. Once it’s back on, open the camera and see if it’s working again.
Clear Camera App Data
Another quick thing you can try is clearing the camera app’s data. Sometimes, small glitches or leftover files can mess with how the camera works.
- Open the device Settings
- Go to Apps, or Application Manager
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner
- Select Show system apps
- Click on the Camera app from the list of system apps
- Tap on Storage
- Now tap Clear data
- When it asks for confirmation, tap OK
- Finally, restart your phone
- Once you’ve restarted, check if your camera is working again.
Check Any Other Camera App
If your default camera app still isn’t working, try installing a different camera app from the Play Store. Sometimes the main camera app has bugs, but other apps can still use the camera without any problem.
Just open the Play Store, search for something like “camera app”, and pick one with good ratings, like Open Camera. Install it and open the camera through that app to see if it works. This is a quick way to check if the issue is with the camera hardware or just the built-in app.
Factory Reset
If nothing else is working, you can try doing a factory reset. This will completely reset your phone and take it back to how it was when you first bought it. It can fix deeper issues, but make sure to back up your stuff first because it will erase everything — your apps, photos, videos, important documents, and settings.
- Open the Settings of the device
- Now, look for options like Backup and reset, click on it
- Choose Reset or Factory data reset
- Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm.
Once the reset is done, your phone will restart like new. Set it up again, and then check if the camera is working. Use this as a last option when nothing else helps.
Visit the Service Center
If the camera still isn’t working after trying everything and still showing “Camera error, please re-enable it later or restart the phone to recover”, it might be a hardware problem. If you still have the bill or receipt, take the phone back to the shop where you bought it, or visit the nearest service center.
Smartphones usually come with a 12-month warranty. So if it’s still under warranty, they should check it for free and fix or replace it if needed. It’s better to get it looked at by the experts if nothing else is helping.
